In affiliation with their exhibition, 'Stay Late, Late Drive,' this 12-page poetry pamphlet narrates Aspland and Buers' most recent works.
The exhibition examines the fleeting void of commuting, where both artists shuttle between locations; underpinning the work with a focus on British motorways, returning to the rural countryside, motel occupancy and absence. These images set a backdrop in motion.
Aspland’s writings were stimuli for the paintings shown in the exhibition. They arose from time spent on the Isle of Arran.
Buers’ writing parallels her work, settling for ephemeral childhood memory in the site-specificity of Bristol. She reflects on her time living in a hotel, the displacement of her hometown on identity and the pleasure of meandering observation.
